Battlefield 6 Confirms Bigger Maps Are Finally On the Way

Battlefield 6 has been living in a weird spot since launch. After a strong beta and solid early reception, the game quickly found itself under fire thanks to Season 1’s cosmetics, microtransactions, and ongoing pacing problems. But even before the backlash, one complaint stayed consistent: the maps feel too small.

Now, after months of silence, DICE has officially acknowledged the issue — and confirmed that larger maps are finally in development.

🗺️ DICE Responds to Long-Standing Map Size Complaints

In a new community update, DICE addressed player frustrations head-on. For the first time since Battlefield 6 launched, the studio openly admitted that map sizes and pacing have been a persistent pain point.

Here’s what they said:

“We have seen your comments about map size and pacing. Battlefield is at its best when maps offer different ways to play and constant action around every corner.”

The team confirmed that they’re actively working on:

  • Larger, more varied map types

  • Adjustments to existing maps

  • Pacing improvements across select modes

  • A brand-new map coming in the next major update

This change comes after Battlefield 6’s map criticism hit its peak — many players felt the smaller layouts didn’t deliver the “big battle chaos” that older Battlefield titles were known for.

🏞️ Bigger Maps Already in Development

DICE revealed that a new large-scale map is currently in production and planned for an upcoming seasonal update.

With the California Resistance Update introducing Eastwood, the studio says it will continue:

  • Monitoring existing map performance

  • Applying targeted fixes (including Winter Offensive adjustments)

  • Learning from Portal community-made maps to improve layout variety

While this is promising news, the update notes that larger maps are still under the “Under Review” category. Translation: no confirmed release date yet.

👥 Player Count Changes Didn’t Solve the Problem

In an earlier attempt to improve pacing, DICE dropped Breakthrough mode from 64 players to 48 players on most maps.

The reaction?

Not good.

Players argued that instead of expanding the maps, DICE simply reduced the action. The pacing felt off, engagements felt sparse, and gameplay flow suffered.

The community’s request was simple:

Make the maps bigger — not the lobbies smaller.

With today’s announcement, it seems DICE finally agrees.

🧠 Final Thoughts

This is the most encouraging update Battlefield 6 has received in a while. Larger maps are a core part of the Battlefield identity, and the community has been waiting patiently for DICE to bring that scale back.

While it’s disappointing that there’s no firm date yet, the studio acknowledging the issue and actively building bigger maps is a massive step in the right direction. If DICE can deliver wide-open layouts with proper pacing, the game could regain the momentum it had at launch.

Until then, players will be watching closely.
