Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Could Bring Back Classic Zombies Mode

Call of Duty: Zombies has been a staple of the franchise ever since its debut in World at War. While the Black Ops series has produced some of the most beloved versions of the mode, recent iterations have experimented with new mechanics that not all fans embraced. Now, a new leak suggests Black Ops 7 could deliver the best of both worlds — offering both a modern and a stripped-back “classic” experience.

According to a well-known Call of Duty leaker, Black Ops 7 will feature two versions of Zombies:
- Standard Zombies – the current evolution of the mode with expanded mechanics and modern features.
- Classic Zombies, reportedly called “Cursed Mode” – a throwback version that removes many newer additions.

Here’s what the leak says about Cursed Mode:
- No mini-map
- No armor system
- No exfil option
- Limited to four perks
- Players start with a pistol
- Classic points system returns
- Wallbuys and weapons are separate from the Standard mode

Essentially, Cursed Mode is designed to feel like the early days of Zombies: brutal, minimal, and focused purely on survival.

The rumored addition of Cursed Mode comes as Black Ops 7 faces high expectations. While Black Ops 6 was a commercial hit, some players felt it lacked innovation. On top of that, Battlefield 6 has been stealing some of the spotlight ahead of Black Ops 7’s November 2025 launch.

Nostalgia could be the key to reigniting excitement. Zombies purists have long requested a return to basics, and combining a modern version with a stripped-back mode may satisfy both sides of the fanbase.

Adding to the mix, Activision has already confirmed that Dead Ops Arcade will return, reinforcing the idea that Treyarch is leaning into fan-favorite content.
