Dying Light: The Beast Becomes the Best-Reviewed Mainline Game in the Series

Techland’s newest release, Dying Light: The Beast, is already setting records for the franchise. Launching on September 18 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X

S, and PC, the game has earned the highest review scores of any mainline entry in the series, signaling a much-needed return to form after a mixed response to its predecessor.

📈 A Franchise High Point

Critics have praised The Beast as the most polished and compelling entry yet, with the game currently holding a 78 Metacritic score. That edges out the original Dying Light, which scored a 74, and Dying Light 2, which reached 76 but left fans divided.

For comparison, Dying Light: The Following expansion scored slightly higher at 79, but since it was an add-on rather than a mainline title, The Beast now officially holds the crown as the series’ best-reviewed core game.

🔄 A Return After a Controversial Sequel

Following the original game’s success, Techland took a risk with Dying Light 2, expanding its world and deepening parkour mechanics. While the gameplay was well received, fans criticized its storytelling, repetitive missions, and weak voice acting.

The Beast, however, seems to have struck the right balance. Set 13 years after the events of The Following, the game reintroduces fan-favorite Kyle Crane in a story that reviewers say is far more engaging and tightly paced.

🔮 What’s Next for Dying Light?

With The Beast receiving acclaim, fans are already asking what’s next. Fortunately, Techland has confirmed that a fourth Dying Light game is already being discussed internally. While it will likely be years before players see it, the studio has made it clear that new ideas are constantly being explored.

For now, though, The Beast stands tall as proof that the franchise is back on track—and perhaps stronger than ever.
