Sucker Punch Co-Founder Hints at Possible Sly Cooper Comeback

Sucker Punch Productions is fresh off the release of Ghost of Yotei, another major PlayStation exclusive. But for some longtime fans, the excitement is bittersweet. It’s been more than a decade since the studio touched two of its classic franchises: Infamous and Sly Cooper.

So now that Yotei is in players’ hands, could the master thief raccoon finally get another shot? According to Sucker Punch co-founder Brian Fleming — the answer is “never say never.”

🎮 The Delicate Balancing Act

In a wide-ranging interview, Fleming explained how difficult it is for the studio to decide what comes next. As games become larger, more detailed, and more complex, Sucker Punch can only commit to one project at a time.

“The truth is that whatever we do next, whether it’s continuing Ghost or going back to Sly, the decision is really more limited by our cherishing of focus and time to iterate. We really can only do one thing at a time,” Fleming said.

He noted that if the team could juggle multiple projects, fans would likely see remasters and spinoffs more often. But the studio intentionally remains small, meaning each project they choose is a five-year commitment — a massive decision that has to be made carefully.

🦊 A Shift in Tone

Fleming’s comments strike a more hopeful note compared to past statements. Creative director Nate Fox once admitted that maybe only “10 percent” of the studio would be excited to revisit Sly Cooper, which left fans doubtful about a comeback.

But Fleming’s “never say never” approach feels like the most positive outlook yet, even if it’s far from a confirmation.

⏭️ What’s Next for Sucker Punch?

The studio is still focused on expanding the Ghost of Yotei universe with its Legends multiplayer mode, and has not announced what comes after. But with fans still clamoring for either Sly Cooper or Infamous, the pressure for a revival is only growing stronger.

For now, Fleming’s words give fans just enough hope that Sucker Punch might eventually revisit its iconic raccoon thief — a franchise that helped shape PlayStation’s early identity.

🕹️ Final Thoughts

It’s not confirmation, but Sucker Punch hasn’t shut the door on Sly Cooper either. With Ghost of Yotei now out, the studio will soon face its next big five-year decision. Could it be Sly Cooper’s long-awaited return? As Fleming put it: never say never.
